Let’s just be upfront, we’re all friends here. I’m no-one’s father.

But that doesn’t stop me from having an appreciation for the role played by fathers; an understanding of that which is required from them and insight into the vital role they diligently undertake in a healthy society. Recently, in my family, my brother joined this rather prestigious “band of brothers” giving me the benefit of first hand insight into fatherhood. This can be best summed up by the fact that he posted a rather interesting jazz video on his Facebook account this past Sunday, at around 05h50. Personally I don’t do Sundays until at least 08h30.

Spot the father. Enough said.

My concern is that, for dads, things like fashion and personal expressions of style, tend to be forgotten and left by the way-side; a coping mechanism I would imagine. So I decided to put a series of posts together as an inspiration to dads, both young and old, for those that have recently neglected style and those that have forgotten exactly when they started to neglect style. But also for lovers of dads, those with a vested interest in getting the old man back to his fashion-loving-expressing self.

Today we start with the Happy Traveller.

Travelling Father Fashion Look Book

For the discerning dad who enjoys travelling. The Happy Traveller finds himself in a place of peace while exploring. From the wild winds of the African Bush to the Cape South-Easter, travel offers the perfect opportunity to compliment his love of fashion and accessories.

An appreciation for classic style is what defines this dad, so elegantly expressed in this brown textured wool-blend suit from River Island. The slim fit ensures an on-trend update to a timeless fashion staple that will hold its own in any situation.

The look and feel of the Happy Traveller is continued in his choice of travel bag. His selection of the Via Veneta Provoque Untamed in Nguni and matching travel wallet, from Via La Moda, speaks to his sense of adventure and will see this dad through any travel exploit, in style. The Nguni finish to this exclusive piece continues his use of texture in his outfit to express his personal sense of style.

An outfit is made in the details, and this dad continues his on-trend look with careful attention to his selection of shoes and watch. Trident Timepieces recently launched in South Africa and offer high quality, well designed watches at a price that allows any dad to own multiple pieces to reflect his ever-changing style. In this outfit the Marrakesh in Rose Gold continues his use of textured, earthy tones.

Finishing off his look, this dad opts for a tan high shine leather tassel loafer from Dune London to channel his effortless style. The high shine adds polish to an already classically tailored outfit.

  1. Hi Ryan
I haven’t followed fashion before. I wear what i am comfortable in and that’s me. I go for the occasional good styleof jacket and shoes. For me, to round off a good pair of shoes is a good pair of socks. You reflect good taste to some in your styles, but surely a good pair of socks to round off and to prevent foot perspiration and foot odour is a must.

    1. Hi Ian! I am so pleased that you are venturing forth into the world of fashion, its all about wearing what you feel comfortable in. I hope you find some inspiration within the pages of my blog! With this outfit, although I appear to not be wearing socks, I am indeed wearing secret socks for the very reasons you outline! Have a good day, and happy Fathers Day for Sunday!

  2. Fatherhood is more than the physical act of raising a human being,
it’s cultivating a mindful awareness of this beautiful thing we call life,
and you, Ryan, have this in bucketloads. Proud to call you my brother,
I always have and always will. Veritas.

  3. My father was never around I was brought up by my step dad.He is treated me like I was his own.He is my role model and I think the happy traveler’s outfit would look good on him and the Nguni finished bag will go well with the outfit. He is a very proud Zulu man. This would make him a very happy man

  7. I love the look, especially the woolen suit that can be mixed and matched with a man with swag. The loafers are def must be for any man. Less is more and that’s the style that you show. The slim fit trend is a definite way to go for most men because makes a man look sophisticated with style. I also like the play of the bag as who said only women should wear bags.

  8. Being the Managing Director of one of the largest Law Firms in Roodepoort, I believe my dad needs to live up to his expectations and why he is seen as one of the best for the past 29 years. First impressions are lasting impressions and with the right pair of shoes from DuneSA, I’m sure my dad will continue to put his best foot forward; especially with the high shine leather pair.
