A Good ‘Ol Salute to English Hospitality
Recently my friend Janice and I were in urgent need of a venue, for celebratory purposes. Janice had just been nominated in the Standard Bank Annual Top Women Awards and in my book that calls for a glass of bubbly or two. And maybe a whisky. And maybe some wine to round off the evening. Maybe.
So to match our mood to the appropriate venue, we headed off in the direction of Churchills Bar in Melrose Arch. Spot on choice.
I loved Churchill’s, with its British-infused decor and upmarket ambience it proved to be just what Janice and I needed to take some time out together, catchup and celebrate good tidings. The venue was a veritable treasure trove for my photographers eye and provided many opportunities for exploration. The view of the Melrose Arch square through an open window was really something to behold, with Winston himself on hand to take it in. He too seems to enjoy whisky.
The food is traditional pub cuisine, but with an upmarket flair. Janice and I opted for the Pub 15 Board with pork loin spare ribs, chicken wings, bratwurst and potato wedges; but you can also select from other interesting options like the Winston’s Board or the Lady Randolph Board. The Lady Randolph Board is named after Jeanette, Lady Randolph Churchill, an American-born British socialite and mother to the British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. I say old chap, rather proper and all.
Should you not be in the mood to share your food, Churchills also serves an array of traditional meals, salads and burgers. The El Camino Burger is next on my list to try!
Special mention must be made of the staff at Churchills who are friendly and just waiting to tend to your every wish. I even managed to rope one of the waiters in for a mini photo shoot, that’s how obliging they are! Check this great image I managed to capture straight off the bar!
Churchill’s attracts just the kind of crowd My Lime Boots appreciates, Joburg’s trendsetters and up-and-coming folk. With an array of the finest cigars, one of the largest selections of single malts, premium whisky’s and champagnes, you will not be left disappointed. The venue is also well appointed to host corporate functions, for brands who have an appreciation for the finer things.
Be sure to check Churchill’s out next time you are looking for a premium venue, just like Janice and I were, or if you are just in the mood for a great night out!
