A City Escape in the Heart of Green Point

Let’s be honest, we all love to escape from life in one way or the other.

Taking time out to recharge the proverbial batteries and gain perspective on a situation, maybe even life itself. As things once again open up, we don our brave faces and extend a big toe into the world that was. All the while eager to understand how it will now be. This couldn’t be a more opportune time for a city break.

And here’s one I recently enjoyed, right in the heart of Green Point, Cape Town, when I stayed at the Romney Park Luxury Apartments along the Atlantic Seaboard.

Tranquillity in the Mother City Herself

This was my second visit to this ApartHotel which is the result of a refurbishment of a grand old 5-star hotel, now a glorious collection of 26 luxurious apartments ranging from one, two and three-bedroom options.

Located in the heart of Green Point you might rightfully question my assertion as to a tranquil escape. But entering Romney Park is like stepping into another dimension, an oasis if you like, one that celebrates life at a slower pace and offers up a space that encourages feet up with a good book.

Business or Leisure – or both?

The ApartHotel concept appeals to me when I travel, as for me, more often than not, travel is work. Having a kitchen on hand to heat up a quick snack late into the night when the writing bug hits, or the ability to make a really good cup of coffee in the wee hours (said writing bug still in full force), makes all the difference. The place just feels like home.

And Romney Park is fully equipped for full-on business visits too, with dedicated spaces to meet these needs. Isn’t it great that even when you’re ensconced in a meeting room, you still have a stunning view of the mountain?

Leisure is well catered for at Romney Park with a generous pool deck for you to while away the hours, vitamin D from the sun being a great source of battery recharge. Located literally in the heart of Cape Town and with easy access to all the trendy spots, like the bars of Long Street or the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, you can be a tourist in your own city. Or just a tourist in a new city, take your pick.

What my Wandering Soul found

I decided to take a walk down to the Waterfront and make use of Voicemap’s GPS driven walking tours to further unpack and understand this landmark. The Reinventing the Taverns of the Sea tour is a free walking tour packed with interesting bits of information that even I did not know. Like the Time Ball Tower, hidden away alongside Dock road, something I’ve probably driven past many times over the years. This tower was used to recalibrate marine chronometers on ships coming into the harbour whose instruments had lost accuracy due to the effects of the turbulent seas. The tour was a great way to connect with the space, and done at my pace.

The GPS guidance system works really well, which I put to the test on one occasion when I accidentally wandered off course. There are plenty of free tours available and the paid tours are very reasonably priced. What’s more, Voicemap is a local company.

Winter Special at Romney Park Luxury Apartments

As winter seems to have made an early appearance in Cape Town, the folks at Romney Park have put together a special for you to enjoy all that this oasis has to offer. Special rates are available on the one and two-bedroom apartments, starting from R1 090 on a single supplement basis. What really interested me about their special was the ability to add a third or fourth person to your booking of a two-bedroom apartment, for just R300 per extra person. All bookings include breakfast, even the additional friends who join you as per this special. Book your special here.

With all that Romney Park Luxury Apartments has to offer, it’s no wonder they have been awarded the accolade of Best 5-Star All Suite Hotel in South Africa for six consecutive years.

See you on the pool deck?

Thank you to the team at Romney Park for hosting my stay and making it yet another memorable time spent in this home away from home for me. Connect with Romney Park Luxury Apartments via the web, Instagram or Facebook.
