COME FLY WITH ME

“Come fly with me, let’s float down to Peru…” as we are enticed by Frank and, of late, by Michael. That familiar song always brings a smile to my face and a slight tap to my foot. Well, in this case, I went floating all the way down to Durban, not quite Peru, but an adventure all the same. I was flying with Mango Airlines and adventure, mixed up with a few spoils, was to be the order of the day.

Mango launched their inaugural flight on 15 November 2006, at the time quite an e-commerce feat here in South Africa, with more than 10 000 flight requests clocked per minute during the first two days following the launch. Since then, they continue to dominate the South African skies with the best on-time performance over the last six years. Definitely something I look for when flying.

So last week was Mango’s eleventh birthday and to celebrate they asked me, along with two other influencers, to bring a friend along who had never experienced the joy of flight before, on a day trip to Durban. I threw it out to all of you My Lime Boots readers and two days before we were scheduled to depart, Mojalefa Matsaneng was selected as the fellow #MangoSurprise birthday celebrant.

Catching the early morning flight from Joburg, I played #TouristInYourCity as we landed in lovely Durban. We headed off in our Tempest rental vehicle to the iconic Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga. Overlooking the Indian Ocean and red-and-white Umhlanga lighthouse, the breakfast buffet is legendary. With the weather being less than cooperative that morning, we spent a luxurious morning enjoying the Oyster Box and all its treats. I could get rather accustomed to champagne and oysters for breakfast every morning.

Check out my video diary of our trip below. Man did Mojalefa get a kick out of flying, he could almost not contain himself when we landed in Durban.

What an absolute privilege to get to experience the joy of a first flight all over again, through the eyes of Mojalefa. It reminded me of how Leonardo da Vinci once described the experience of flight

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”

Welcome to the #PassportGang Mojalefa, see you at a boarding gate soon!
