The word brings a shiver to my spine, the thought of it does things to me that would be inappropriate to mention here. I seriously dislike shaving and take just about any opportunity I can, not to shave.
But shave I must and what a blessing the genes I have; I need to shave regularly to maintain a semblance of acceptability. Three things recently happened to me, which would turn my little shaving world on its proverbial head.
Thing Number 1
You would have seen from recent blog posts and videos, I now use SkinCeuticals for my skincare needs. What an awesome brand, these guys are leaders in research on all matters of skincare and have an outstanding range of products for your every need. Men and women. So it was no surprise when I found that they had a product which was claimed to be ideal as a post-shave balm.
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that, only to be disappointed by the non-performance of a suggested product. But like I said, SkinCeuticals are in another league. Christelle, a bonafide SkinCeuticals boffin, suggested I try the SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Masque, an intensive calming botanical masque.
Applied just after I shave, it lives up to the promises made and instantly soothes my irritated skin, which post shave goes into a bit of a melt-down. It also reduces the tell-tale signs of having just shaved, by reducing redness.
What’s great about SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Masque is that it can be used daily especially after sun exposure and post procedure for those in-clinic treatments.
Bam, shaving is starting to look more viable already.
Thing Number 2
With the drastic improvement in my shaving routine in play, I find myself open to new shaving products. As if reading my mind, the friendly folks at Schick sent me the new Schick Hydro 5 razor, voted earlier this year as product of the year for 2017. Why did it win this award? Well for the innovative hydrating gel reservoir, amongst others.
So I put the razor to the test and was instantly converted. Now, this is quite a thing for me, as I have been using the same razor brand (not Schick, the other one) for more than 20 years. I first used the Schick Hydro 5 in March this year and have not stopped since then so I think it is safe to say that I have changed brands, and that this brand really works for my sensitive skin.
Shaving is becoming fun, I sometimes even find myself doing it two days in a row!
Thing Number 3
The shaving vibe was now in full swing and Kyle over at Kiehl’s sent me some Kiehl’s Close Shavers Squadron brushless shave cream. I have used many Kiehl’s products in the past and know the brand to be of a very high standard. Being brushless means I save time and for sensitive skin means this was destined to be right up my alley.
The Kiehl’s Close Shavers Squadron is rather creamy and oily which gives great protection against minor cuts and some skin grazing. It is unscented (a personal preference so as not to interfere with my fragrance selection) and contains aloe, just what sensitive skin needs! What I really like about this product is that it rinses off my razor with relative ease, great little time saver. Kiehl’s Close Shavers Squadron lubricates well and makes for a great shave, my shaving cream too has been changed!
And there you have it, the three things that rocked my shaving world. My entire shaving routine has been overhauled with the result that shaving is not the four letter word it used to be.
