The 3 reasons I tried joggers

So I recently decided to push my boundaries, fashionably speaking. Having felt a sense of adventure welling up inside of me, I was determined to try something different. This feeling continued to simmer inside of me until its inevitable culmination, with me finding myself on unfamiliar territory.

I had always steered (very) clear of sports apparel, not being much of a sports person myself.  If sports is your thing, rock those track pants I say! So imagine my surprise, with this long standing personal aversion to the style of “sports apparel” – I found myself taking a closer look at joggers.

Taking the proverbial bull by its somewhat willing horns, I purchased a navy blue pair. Can’t go wrong with navy. And boy have I been pleasantly surprised. The purchase has been of such success that at a recent event I attended at River Island Brooklyn Mall I found myself playing shop assistant in the mens section, recommending joggers.

I have come to learn that joggers have a bit of a bad wrap, with many a fashion forward chap expressing doubt and concern about the style. So herewith the three reasons why I tried joggers.

Firstly, you can dress them up, they are versatile and can accommodate any look that you take a fancy to on a particular day. Wearing, as I am here, my navy joggers, gives me the ability to dress in a more formal tone. No dandy graces being compromised with this outfit.

I had such fun going through my closet and matching various items with the joggers. Just about any look can be constructed around these pants, catering for your unique expression on a particular day.

Perfect for long, lazy summer afternoons where less is, well, best. Let this versatile fashion item speak for you. They are fast becoming a dress-down staple in my closet.

And lastly, for the comfort they offer when life is coming at your from all sides.

Speaking to a fashion insider and celebrity stylist recently, joggers and more notably cuffed chino’s are a hot trend going into Autumn / Winter 2015 for South African men. As we continue to see men take their rightful place in South African fashion, expect to see more of these hot items. I have already invested in a few more pairs, including my current favourite – cuffed acid wash denim.

Next time you are in the mens section, look out for the joggers and cuffed chinos. You may also find me there espousing the many fine qualities of the new fashion must-haves. Do you own a pair, or three?
