The Country Gentleman
What better way to spend a winter Sunday afternoon, than taking in a lunch in the country. While the winter months invite us to experiment with textures that are heavier and bolder than those we would usually consider during the summer months; the country provides a wonderful opportunity to match these textures and accented tones against its own unique palette of colours.
I put this outfit together as part of a new collaboration I am pioneering with the ladies online site Under 5 Foot. See our intro video for more on the Power Couple Dressing series. Let’s take a look at my interpretation of an outfit appropriate for the modern gentleman venturing into the country, albeit for an afternoon.
This season I am enjoying incorporating bold and striking colours into my winter attire. This pink jacket with its interesting fabric weave hits the nail on the head on both the colour and texture fronts. Paired with the bold red lapel pin and navy polka dot tie and pocket-chief combination, the attention to detail in this outfit makes it stand out as fashion-forward while retaining the necessary classical elements demanded by country inspired dress.
Still being winter, I picked up on the red lapel pin by wearing these maroon suede ankle boots; one of my new favourite items. You can’t beat this worn suede effect finish when it comes to adding texture to an outfit. In order to offer these ankle boots the platform they so well deserve, I completed the look with a pair of slim fit blue trousers. These trousers not only serve to feature the ankle boots, but complete the full look by referencing the tie and pocket-chief combination.
This look served me well for our country lunch while looking the part of a modern country gentleman. At the same time it was practical; allowing me to explore the glorious setting we found ourselves in.
What I’m wearing:
– jacket, shirt, tie and pocket-chief from TopMan
– pants and maroon suede ankle boots from TopMan
– brown Chris sunglasses from RayBan
– red lapel pin from T.M. Lewin
